What Black Window is

Black Window is software that runs a language model and a memory (the Weave) on your own device: in this browser, or in the Mac app. Sunstone North Labs LLC ("we") publishes it at blackwindow.xyz and as the app. Using either is agreeing to these terms.

Your machine, your models, your boxes

Models run on your device unless you connect a box or a server. A box is a machine you rent on vast.ai on your own account and connect to the page; a server is any OpenAI-compatible endpoint you point the page at. We are not a party to your rental: vast.ai bills you, you stop the instance, and what runs on it is yours to manage. When you rent through our referral link, vast.ai pays us a share; the price you pay is vast's price. Our templates start an open-source server (llama.cpp) on the box with a model from the Hugging Face Hub; the model's own licence applies to your use of it.

What leaves your device

By default nothing leaves your device except downloads of models and code. Three things can, each said on screen when it happens: prompts to a box or server you connected; lookups to Wikipedia and the web when live lookup is on; requests to vast.ai through our pass-through when you have pasted a vast API key. The privacy page lists exactly what our server sees.

No warranty

Black Window is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Language models make mistakes; the page marks what it retrieved and what it did not, and you are responsible for checking anything you rely on. We are not liable for costs you incur on vast.ai or elsewhere, for data you lose (save your sessions; the page offers to), or for what a model says.

Acceptable use

Use Black Window lawfully and within the licences of the models you run. Do not use it to attack systems you do not own, including boxes you have not rented. Do not scrape or overload blackwindow.xyz.

Changes

These terms may change; the date above moves when they do. Questions to burton@sunstonenorth.com.
